What Is In Your Hand?

Then the Lord said to him, “what is that in your hand?” Exodus 4:2(NIV)

Moses is having a conversation with God. God wants to send him back to Egypt to deliver his people but Moses has reservations. First, he didn’t believe he could convince the Israelites God sent Him. We’ve all been here feeling called but wondering if people will believe us when we tell them.

Moses didn’t think he had anything to do what God was calling him to do. That’s when God asks him, “What is in your hand?”

Most people don’t have a problem with dreaming. Our struggle is beginning to pursue those dreams. Fear will convince us that we need to have something before we can do what God wants us to do. We believe that if we had more money then we will go after those dreams. When our circumstances change and we feel a little more secure and comfortable with our call then we will begin pursuing our dreams.

What are you dreaming about? What is that thing that you feel passion for? God will use you right there where you are. Start with what you have and let God multiply it and turn it into more than enough.

If you’ll start right there where you are, God will grow in it into what it needs to be. Sometimes, we look at people in year ten of pursuing their dreams and we want their results. But they didn’t start at year ten; they had a day one of going after their dreams. They had many days they felt like quitting. They had days they got so discouraged but they didn’t give up; they got up and kept going.

They started with what was in their hands and they trusted God to multiply it and make it grow. If you’ll begin right where you are and with what’s in your hands. You’ll get to a season of fruitfulness and harvest too.

Maybe, you have a dream of writing; Start by writing in your journal, practice writing for yourself, this how I began.

In my quiet time in 2014, I felt the Lord say, “You are going to be a writer.”(hahaha) I was so intimidated. First, I come from a culture of people who don’t read. My first question was, “who is going to read?” I remember God saying, “You learn how to write, be diligent and I will bring you the readers.” Second, I didn’t feel like I was the writing kind, I disqualified myself.

Nonetheless, I began to write on my laptop. It wasn’t anything awesome (to be honest it was horrible). For the next two years, I got on the internet and found bloggers I admired and learned from them. I read a lot of stuff. And I journaled and wrote for myself a lot.

In 2016, I felt led to start a blog. Five months later, I moved my blogging to Facebook. People began following and reading my content. Here I am in 2021 back to blogging.

Even though I knew I was called to write, I began with what I had in my hands and I trusted the lord to grow it and multiply it.

Maybe, you have a dream but you’ve been procrastinating taking the first step. You’ve felt you don’t have enough money. You don’t have all the fancy gadgets or the right tools. I feel like God is asking you, “What do you have in your hands?”Where can you start today?” What can you do about fulfilling that dream?” begin there.

When we are faithful with what is in our hands today God will be faithful to bring us what we need to fulfill our dreams.

Romans 8:30 and for those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.(NIV)

That’s you and I, we are the predestined, called, and equipped. We have all that we need to do what He has called us to do. If we’ll take the first step God will lead us to places we couldn’t have imagined or dared to dream.

Ephesians 2:10 also tells us, for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV) I love that it says we are His workmanship meaning, God has made sure to equip us with what we need to do those good works.

What are those good works prepared in advance for you to do? Is it music or art? Is it leading people into God’s presence through worship? Is it writing and encouraging people? When I read this verse I no longer have an excuse to stand before God and say I don’t have what I need and neither do you.

Prayer

Father, I thank you because before you gave me this dream. You also equipped me with all that I need. Help me see what is in my hand that I can use to pursue the dreams in my heart. I’m not here by accident; I’m here well prepared and equipped with everything I need. I choose to believe in your word and begin. And if I will trust you with what is in my hand, you are able to turn it into everything it needs to be to help me with my dreams. In Jesus name Amen!
